Send the film + a note

Upload directly or paste a YouTube/Drive link. Tell the consultant what to focus on, "why we lose the 4th quarter" or "fix my son's shot mechanics" or just "give me everything."

The coach goes to work

They watch the film on their own time, then record a screen-share walkthrough with voice-over, pausing, drawing on plays, calling out what they see. You only pay once they deliver your breakdown.

What this is, and what it isn't.

This is coaching, not recruiting. HoopLab consultants are here to teach you the game, film breakdown, technique, reads, schemes, how to study tape on your own. They are not scouts for college programs and they will not connect you with recruiters or open doors to coaching contacts. If recruiting exposure is what you're after, this isn't the platform for it.

Players under 18: an adult must be present on the call. All consultants pass a third-party background check at their own cost, it's a commitment filter and a safety floor. Every session is recorded for accountability. Off-platform contact is auto-flagged. Consultants complete a mandated-reporter awareness module as part of onboarding. We take this seriously because basketball culture has had enough incidents, we're not adding to that.
Common questions

The stuff you'd ask before booking.

What film should I bring?
A full game, a quarter, a couple possessions you're confused about, whatever you want eyes on. You can upload an MP4 / MOV (we handle the conversion) or paste a YouTube unlisted link. Add focus notes at booking time so your consultant comes prepared knowing what you want to dig into.
How is this different from the free Film Room?
The Film Room is for you to tag, build shot charts, and run AI reports yourself. Consultants are for when you want a real human coach to break down what you can't see yet, defensive rotations, footwork on shooting form, how to read ball screens. The free product handles the analytics. The marketplace handles the expertise.
What if my consultant cancels?
100% automatic refund plus a free-session credit valid for 30 days. If they cancel within 24 hours of the session, they also get a strike on their record, 3 strikes in 12 months and they're removed from the platform.
Can I cancel my own booking?
Yes. 100% refund if you cancel 24+ hours before the session. 50% refund 2-24 hours before. No refund inside the 2-hour window. All times are measured on our server clock to keep things fair.
Are consultants vetted?
Every consultant applies, completes a screening interview with us (where they break down a standardized sample film), passes a background check, and verifies identity through Stripe. We manually review every application, there's no auto-approval.
Can I book multiple sessions with the same consultant?
Yes, as often as you like. The whole point of HoopLab is building a real coaching relationship, so you can rebook the same consultant whenever you want and pick up right where you left off.
Is the session recorded?
Yes, every session. Required for safety (especially with younger players) and useful for you, rewatch the breakdown anytime, share with your team coach, send a clip to your parents. You can delete a recording anytime from your dashboard.
